Naktuinbouw Elite

Producers of propagating material appreciate being rewarded for all the extra care and attention they devote to their crops. The Naktuinbouw quality-plus systems allow them to demonstrate the added value or superior quality of their products.

Propagating material that complies with the stringent standards may be traded with a Naktuinbouw quality brand and/or certificate. Three quality-plus-systems have been developed:

• Naktuinbouw Elite for tested propagating material produced in a pyramid system;
• Naktuinbouw Select Plant for lots of propagating material of exceptional quality;
• Certification arboricultural crops for plants or lots of propagating material in the arboricultural sector that meet the certification standards.

The stringent standards relate to the internal and external quality, and the health of the propagating material. Laboratory tests are usually required to establish if all the criteria have been complied with. During the assessment of the material, particular attention is paid to varietal trueness, varietal purity, origin, health (absence of viruses, fungi, bacteria or nematodes) and the quality.

In addition, producers wishing to trade their propagating material with the Naktuinbouw Elite certificate are obliged to use a prescribed, staged propagating system:

The title Naktuinbouw Elite confirms the superior quality level of the product. In some cases the accompanying certificate applies for the entire lot, in other cases for individual plants.

Naktuinbouw Elite currently covers the following crops/plants:

Ornamental Crops

More than 230 species, including:
        * Petunia, Verbena, Lobelia, Dahlia, Osteospermum, Impatiens and various bedding plants
        * Perennials (for instance Astilbe, Hosta, Heuchera)
        * Dianthus
        * Anthurium
        * Begonia
        * Chrysanthemum
        * Pelargonium
        * Rosa (rootstocks for greenhouse roses)
